A hopeful spoken word reflection on a very different New Year. BRAND NEW VIDEOS COMING SOON! Subscribe for more: http://bit.ly/Subscribe_to_Gary_Turk Written, Performed & Edited by Gary Turk. Music by Tom Rosenthal. Instagram - @gary_turk http://www.instagram.com/gary_turk http://www.twitter.com/gary_turk http://www.garyturk.com Words: So it’s a new year. That time we look to start over and make a change. But doing anything this year does feel a bit strange. Days, weeks and months were all heading the same way, but then, one day, it felt different, like time had slowed. Like we all turned a corner and went down a new road. And now the only real change this year is the date. But this little change is all it should take for us to celebrate, that we are here, that we get another year, That despite all the tragedy, We still choose hope over fear. Let’s take this moment to pause, To look at the world reflectively, To look for the lessons to be learnt retrospectively. See which parts we should change, and which parts need reviewing, See which parts to rearrange, and which parts to keep doing. So in a few months time, when all is said and done, We can say forget 2020, This is 2021.Entertainment

I've been meaning to make this video for a while. I have been procrastinating so much this week that I ended up writing and filming this whole thing today instead of making something I was supposed to. I leave things to the last minute and then regret it. There are even times when I have something I need to do, And it’s something I want to do, And as I’m about to see it through, It seems like anything else will do. Because I am a procrastinator, I put things off and say ‘I’ll do it later’; I am my own manipulator, Tricking myself that time is on my side, When it’s not. Because I am a time evaporator, I put things off and say ‘I’ll do it later’; I am a distraction generator, Finding anything and everything to do, Except that one thing. I am an attention detonator, I put things off and say ‘I’ll do it later’; I need a focus investigator, Because I am a perpetrator of crimes against productivity. I play it as cool as a refrigerator, I put things off and say ‘I’ll do it later’; I am a panic operator, I wait until the last minute until fear gets things done, But what if there is no last minute, No deadlines to make us panic, Then what? We would just continue forward forever, Where we’d sit distracted by leisure, Chasing goals we will never treasure. But we are all procrastinators. At risk of living life in line like spectators. Wanting to have done things more than do them, But we do things more once we’ve done them. So let’s stop putting things off and become life activators, time dedicators, opportunity creators, and do more. Life is there for the taking, but you have to take it, if you want to make it. Life can be rewarding, but there is no award for ambitions ignored. Whether it’s that project you’ve yet to finish, Or that work you’ve yet to start, be smart. Good things DO NOT come to those who wait, So don’t leave it to fate, your life deserves to be great, Be the best version of you, before it’s too late. And if your attention ever fades, focus on this old thought, That time is a thief that never gets caught. Copyright © 2017 Gary Turk All Rights ReservedEntertainment

This is for introverts everywhere. 'I think it is very healthy to spend time alone. You need to know how to be alone and not be defined by another person.' - Oscar Wilde SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE: http://bit.ly/Subscribe_to_Gary_Turk INSTAGRAM: https://instagram.com/gary_turk TWITTER: https://twitter.com/gary_turk FACEBOOK: https://facebook.com/MrGaryTurk SNAPCHAT: G.Turk WEBSITE: http://garyturk.com Music by David Ralph http://www.davidralph.co.uk Intro by Zach Lower https://instagram.com/zachlower Words: I enjoy having time to myself. It’s not a shy thing or an anti-social thing; it’s just an introvert thing. We’re the type who need to be alone, on our own, Our biggest gripe is to read ‘unknown’ on our phone. Because it’s like no one understands, that having bread sticks and Netflix still counts as having plans, I’ll expand… A plan by definition, is an intention or decision, that you’ve planned in advance, and so, if by chance I should answer, that I’m busy all night, know that binging on a series just might be alright. We just do what makes us feel good, we’re far from depressed, we’re actually the opposite, less likely to be stressed. It takes less to make us happy; we’re ok by ourselves, because we’re friends with our thoughts, and the books on our shelves. Just leave us in peace, avoid knocking our doors, any unexpected guests will get ignored on all fours. We can be chatty when we want to, just not groups that are large, as socializing drains us and then we have to recharge. I mean, we still go to parties, but we keep our friends by our side, and we'd always head home early if we weren't waiting for a ride. Because sometimes it’s tough, and sometimes it hurts, to live in a world designed for extroverts, from classrooms to open offices, we don’t see the attraction, we do all our best work when we’re free from distraction. We rely on solitude, it’s where we work and we grow, like so many introverts you might happen to know, JK Rowling, Dr. Seuss, bill gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Einstein, Gandhi, the amount is absurd, so many quiet choices with voices still heard! Let’s whisper to the rooftops that introvert’s just a word. So never feel bad when you want to go hide, as the world may just need what is growing inside, Taking shelter in our minds is what keeps us alive, just like turtles need their shells if they want to survive. We’re not sad or depressed, we’re happier this way; we just want to be alone for a while. And that is OK. How dare Apple decide this little plugs fate, Poor old jack’s been around since 1878. They say it’s time to do more, to start a new chapter, but jack can adapt, without an adaptor. He fits all my devices, no matter the brand, so why take him away, I don’t understand, im not ready right now, to say my goodbye ‘Goodbye little Jacky, I’m gonna miss you so bad.’ Jack is our friend, he’s nothing too frightening, unlike this powerful version you like to call lightning, Look, I love the iPhone, I’m certainly no hater, but if I went wireless, I’d feel like a traitor. I am thankful for those wires that deliver my sound, always saving my phone from hitting the ground But my biggest of fears, is if my Uber’s unable, to hook me on up, with the right aux cable. ‘Don’t hit the road, Jack.’ I’ve stuck with my phone, through the rise and the falls, But I use the jack more often than I even make calls, I’m going to miss you buddy, I just want you to know, No matter what Jack, I’ll never let go. I spotted you right away. Ankle swingers, wooly scarf, headphones, book bag, bracelets, big eyes and little nose. So Independent. So original. So unknown. Feet up at the front of the bus. I catch your eyes in the reflection of the glass, but were they aimed at me? Why do I do this? I know I'll never see you again so what's the fear? Why can't I just ask your name? Why is that so weird? Why can't I just this once embrace the doubt and break the curse and take the risk that I might just make my life better with no risk of making it worse. Why do I do this? To be lost and not found. I write about people, just to keep them around. I should title this poem after you too, and hope that it leads to seeing you again. But this piece is untitled, because I never asked your name. Copyright © 2016 Gary Turk All Rights ReservedEntertainment

A spoken word film about enjoying nature and spending more time outdoors. Our environment and our climate is what keep us alive. If we look after our planet, it will look after us in return. The words: Robert Frost took the road less travelled. Henry David Thoreau took a walk in the woods and came out feeling taller than the trees. Me… I used to run. I would run so far that when I looked back at my parents they had almost disappeared. My dad would catch up to me with that face every child feared, But for a moment; I was free. Free to be me, In the woods beneath the trees, surrounded 360 degrees by nature. It is in our nature, to want to be wild, To get a closer look, let out our inner-child. To feel wonder, and excitement, to dream big and take aim. We should accept this gift that is ours to claim. We are animals, Trapped inside cages we built for ourselves. And instead of tearing them down, we are putting up shelves. But why? We should be exploring new lands, Instead we watch the world through a window, That we keep in our hands. To see things for the first time. To see things as they are, and always have been. To get lost, and still feel at home. That is what it means, To be outdoors. To get excited over the little things, Never new, never old, available to all. Like a child diving for coins at the bottom of a pool, Reach for all that you can, in the short time that you have. As, in the end, our lives will be made of the moments we remember. Like the moment you got caught in the rain, and didn’t go inside until it stopped. Or the time you picked bright flowers and wore each petal till it dropped. The moment you swam naked in the ocean, when no one was around, Or the time you stood above the clouds, yet never left the ground. This world is beautiful, and we take it for granted. We wrap ourselves in cities where nature was once planted. But the real world is untouched, and it’s just so much greater, Don’t put off seeing it now, in the hope you’ll see it later. It won’t always be here, it’s alive, needs looking after, Climate change is an issue that’s too often met with laughter. By people, who choose money over life, Over beauty. Caring for the planet is not a choice, it’s our duty. Because if we tear it all down, and don’t give it respect, Don’t preserve our resources, or do are best to protect, It will come after us, down this same beaten track, The hand that feeds, biting us right back. To be outdoors is to be together. To be outdoors is to be interconnected with everyone and everything. To be outdoors is to never be alone. So be outdoors, and let it be known, You are here. Don’t sit still, Pull at nature’s strings, Make new discoveries, Learn new things. Accept the journey, And carve this into wood; There is no getting anywhere, Without making the getting there good.
